I bought it right before I turned 16. Only would run for about 20 minutes before weirdly dying and it had no seats so I drove it home sitting on a couple bags of concrete mix.

Then after much blood sweat and tears

Then getting her dirty

I had three different cars in high school. One was a 1977 CJ7. I miss it every day.

That thing was soo much fun and I learned most of what I know about wrenching while restoring/modifying it. I wish I never sold it. I’ll get another old jeep someday

Curious - why was it dying every 20 minutes? “Much blood/sweat/tears” needs to be described. THERE’S A STORY HERE.

haha there are many stories that involve that Jeep from my highschool years. Some involve wild animals, the police, hurricanes, jetskis, forest fires, and general shenanigans

Anyway, so the jeep would only run for 20 minutes then die, and it wouldn’t start until it cooled back down. There was nothing unusual to see on the gauges, temp was fine, voltage fine, oil pressure good, etc. I went ahead and replaced the spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, the fuel filter and fuel pump, and all the fluids while I was at it. It ran smoother, but still would die after 20 minutes.

So I fired it up and just let it idle and sat and watched it so I could try to find the culprit. Thats when I noticed a small drip. Lo and behold it was fuel and it was coming from a frayed fuel line that was waaaaaaay to close to the exhaust. So when this frayed line got hot, it would swell up and pinch off the fuel flow. I replaced the line and moved it much further away from the hot bits and boom problem solved.
